Chesapeake Science Point Public Charter School Math team participated in another prestigious interstate math competition. The competition took place on January 29, 2010 and was sponsored by National Defense Education Program, the MathCounts and the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division. Chesapeake Science
Point Public Charter School Math team participated in another
prestigious
interstate math competition. The competition took place on January 29,
2010 and was
sponsored by National Defense Education Program, the MathCounts
and the Naval Surface
Warfare Center, Carderock Division.
Only fifteen
schools from Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C. were invited to
participate which
included the most successful middle schools in the greater D.C.
area. Longfellow
Middle School- Gifted and Talented Program (feeder for Thomas
Jefferson High
School), Takoma Park Magnet Middle School and Chesapeake
Science Point
Public Charter School were some of the invitees for this invitation
only competition.
CSP got the second
best school award, after Longfellow Middle School, and
received the
highest score among all the Maryland participants including Takoma
Park Magnet which
has been receiving the highest scores in all MathCounts
competitions for
the last 24 years in a row.
There were 30
teams from 15 schools with 109 students in total. Two CSP students
also made the top
five on individual rounds. Ruslan Onyshkevych got the SECOND
place and Lukash
Onyshkevych got the FOURTH place representing CSP, Anne
Arunel County and
the State of Maryland. Our students were recognized by the
division commander
Captain Chris D. Meyer, USN at Carderock.
